What is Onvo and how is helping me?

Well, it’s pretty amazing actually. With the Onvo approach it sounds so simple but it works! With Onvo Essentials, I embarked on a 28-day experiment to learn how to eat and when to eat and also why to eat. That last part sounds strange perhaps but learning to honor one’s hunger takes practice but oh, what a wonderful discovery and gift.

So for the past 2 weeks I ate whole foods (yummy foods actually) including Quinoa and Coconut Oil (LOVE THIS!), lean meats, natural Peanut butter, fruits and veggies of course. Lots of veggies…

There are some items that go on the ‘suspend list’ for these 28 days, as Dr. Mark calls it, which included cutting out coffee, dairy and grains. That struck a little fear in my at the beginning, seeing how I could basically have a coffee IV hooked to my arm, but you know what? After a few days I realized 1) I was still alive and 2) I actually felt better!

I learned that I could eat less by eating solid, nutritious foods and got comfortable with being a little hungry and then eating until I wasn’t hungry. It was strange and scary too, not having this prescriptive food plan, but I am starting to learn to trust my instincts for what I wanted and needed to eat! Even though grain and dairy are off the list for a few weeks, I never felt deprived. It really is amazing.

Of course exercise is important and I am adding in 30 minutes daily of movement but what’s lovely is there is freedom to pick which movement I want. I am learning to let of that rigid view that I must exercise super hard every day. Rather, I find the right balance. Don’t get me wrong–I love the exercise aspect but it’s good to realize that it doesn’t have to be an extreme approach.

Another important aspect to this 28-day experiment is getting sleep. Being a night owl and tending to wear sleep deprivation almost like a badge of honor (you may know what I’m talking about here) it was tough to shift my mindset on going to bed early. Many of you probably have the same challenge. There is no perfect solution but there are small changes that can help. I had to prioritize time at night because let’s face it, there’s always too much to do with our allotted time. But when I weighed out watching a TV show (yes, even Real Housewives!) with getting sleep, I decided sleep was better. And it’s true.

So for me, after 18 days now of the 28-day experiment, I can say that it’s absolutely a game-changer to find a new balance in my life with food. Ultimately I am learning how to make peace with food, rather than having another piece of something sweet!

Interested to learn more? Dr. Mark will have a free orientation for the October Onvo Essentials on Monday, October 8 at 7 pm. http://onvo.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/onvo-program
