Need a Take Back?

Remember back in elementary school when you didn’t like what happened and you’d call for a do over? How often would you love to have a do over now that you’re all grown up?

Pleaseaholics notoriously jump to say yes, and then wish they had a do over…a way to take it back and say no instead. Rather than rock the boat or upset the person they said yes to, People Pleasers force themselves to hold true to their “yes” even if it comes at their own expense. Stretching themselves thinner and thinner, Pleaseaholics struggle to say no and end up over-committed and under-joyed.

I want you to have a tool to “take back” the yeses you regret without creating drama or guilt. Very often the toughest part of a difficult conversation is getting started. Knowing how to kick it off makes it more likely you’ll do it. The tool for the job here is called the “Take Back”
The “Take Back” gives you an easy way to undo what you’ve overdone. The “Take Back” sounds like this: “I thought more about…”

For example:

  • I thought more about my schedule. It turns out I won’t be able to be on the membership drive committee after all.
  • I thought more about getting you to the airport. It turns out I’ve overbooked myself and won’t be able to do it.
  • I thought more about our conversation. I feel really hurt and need to clear the air.

Having a way to take back your yes will keep your life from being bogged down with obligations. You’ll feel balanced and less stressed. Most important, as you clear your plate of all the stuff you didn’t want to commit to in the first place, you’ll be free to say “yes” to your true passions, purpose and priorities. Go for it!
