Eating Discovery Factoid #1 (Day 43)

Part of what’s so wonderful about this little journey I’m on to learn how to peacefully co-exist with food is that I am learning every day how to make it happen. For example, by not eating processed sugar now for oh, I guess 43 days (and yes, I’m counting!), I now can truly appreciate that sugar-free chocolate pudding with Light Cool Whip is not actually that tasty.

Now don’t get me wrong–and I don’t want to enrage any Jello and Cool Whip fans out there–but after this time without sugar, I could finally appreciate that the artificial flavors and sweeteners are not really such great substitutes. I would rather save up and plan for a smaller taste of real chocolate pudding with a dollop of cream. Quality trumps quantity!

This may seem like a pretty small discovery for some but when you’ve had nearly life-long affair with fake food since it never seemed safe or okay to eat the ‘real food’, this is an incredible realization that I too can want to have less of the ‘real thing’ and not feel deprived but rather, feel pretty darn proud.

With gratitude,

Marie Mihail
