Nutrition
This information is gleaned from articles I have read and from witnessing the benefits with my own clients.
- Make sure your child’s blood sugar is kept at an even level. Low blood sugar can make it hard to focus and can cause tantrums, abusive or violent outbursts, or other impulsive and/or illegal behavior.
- For athletic kids, make sure that they have what amounts to an extra meal.
- Junk food is a bad idea. Most of it isn’t really food – it’s made up of chemicals that are unhealthy for anybody, and poisonous for sensitive constitutions.
- Organic food has been shown to have a calming or “grounding” effect on people with ADD. Their decision-making abilities are strengthened and impulsivity is decreased.
- Substitute water for other liquids. Water doesn’t just hydrate the muscles, it hydrates the brain, allowing for optimal functioning.
These tips are not to be considered a substitute for seeing a health professional who specializes in nutrition.
