In my opinion, in our society motivation is highly overrated! I hear it much too often: I am lacking motivation, what do I do? How do I get it back? Or better yet: I am so de-motivated that I can’t do anything until I am committed again!
If I only did things when I was motivated...I wouldn’t get much done! We all have responsibilities in life and in most situations motivation is not an issue. How many of you are mothers out there? - does motivation determine whether or not you take care of your child? How many of you have jobs? - does it matter if you don’t feel like going to work? I would not attain any success I have in life if I relied purely on motivation.
If making healthy lifestyle a priority does not fit into your schedule, think of the aspects of your life on a personal level which are compromised when you are not comfortable in your skin. It is not a secret that once you have control over your body you become more efficient in every sphere of life, due to a more positive self-image, higher energy levels and the sense of accomplishment. If you believe it is within your power to make an impact on those around you, how much more possible is it to create change within yourself! Just like in an airplane emergency: put the mask on yourself first so you can be at your best as you move forward with everything else.
Doing the right thing applies to many aspects of life, including fitness. If it is good for you and you have decided to get it done, don’t worry too much about being motivated. Make a decision and stick to it. You can make a decision 365 times a year, or you can make it once and accept it as a part of life for the rest of the year.
