One of my clients got that nasty call from the doctor that nobody wants: the doctor found cancer cells. She managed to keep her composure long enough to ask some solid questions about her life, or maybe the end of her life. What was the first question?
First: Did I pay the life insurance premium? Sounds funny doesn’t it? But it mattered.
Second: Do I have enough life insurance? Again, sounds funny, but let’s fact it: it’s too late to buy it once the doctor calls
Because I help people with their final plans, and write their Wills and Living Trusts, I thought the order of her questions was odd. I would have said that the Will comes first. But her thoughts went to the heart of what I do: We want to take care of our families, and life insurance is one of the great ways to meet our obligations to younger people, or to surviving spouses. It doesn’t fit everybody’s needs, but it meets many people’s needs.
If you have any of these issues, you need to think about life insurance
- Children
- Parents who need support
- A Spouse who will survive you, with not enough income
- A business
- A second marriage, with kids from the first
Buying life insurance is a little like paying for a Will: you need to make the purchase long before you need it! Once you really need it, when you are sick, or getting up in ages, you probably can’t get it.
Do your family a big favor today. Call an agent, and even if your health isn’t that great, see what that agent can do to give you the peace of knowing your loved one’s will have money after you are gone.
Then call me to get your Will done! It’s on the list of important things to do! You can find my book Where There’s a Will, There’s A Way! at my wetbsite, wheretheresawilltheresaway.net.
