Take Small Steps to Success
Most people feel very overwhelmed when they are working on an organizing project. A sense of dread and fear overcome them and they become paralyzed with how and where to start. Here are two ways you can use to jump start your organizing project:
- Time yourself. Set a specific amount of time each day or each week that you can work on the project/space. Maybe 10 minutes a day or 30 minutes a week. Set a timer, and get as much done as you can in that time. When the time is up, stop until next time.
- Pick one small area to work on and complete (before moving on). Perhaps a drawer, one closet shelf or 3 inches of filing papers. Complete that one space and then stop until next time.
Organizing isn’t necessarily about finishing the entire garage in one day. It is about getting your space back and maintaining it by creating good habits. If you put the time in your calendar to work every day or every week, and start the habit you will be surprised how much easier the project becomes. You can then take on more each time you work.
